Discover Staurolite Books

Staurolite Books is dedicated to producing quality books that inspire, educate, and entertain, fostering a lifelong love of reading. We envision a world where books are accessible to everyone, and stories are shared across generations. Our core values include integrity, inclusivity, and a passion for storytelling, guiding us in every decision we make.

What We do

Staurolite Books offers a distinctive, collaborative approach to publishing. Authors work closely with the publisher on both content and cover design. We handle all typesetting, assign an ISBN, and prepare the manuscript for print. Once the print proof is approved, the book is ready for ordering.

Our goal is to provide a cost-effective pathway for authors to see their work in print. All services—typesetting, ISBN assignment, and print preparation—are offered at cost, with no labour charges. Printing is managed through IngramSpark in Melbourne, known for producing high-quality books. Authors pay only the printer’s fee; no additional charges are applied.

We do not offer formal editing. Authors who wish to engage professional editors are welcome to do so independently.

Distribution is not managed by Staurolite Books. IngramSpark provides global listing and distribution services, which operate independently of us. Any royalties from online sales via IngramSpark are passed on in full to the author.

In essence, Staurolite Books enables authors to self-publish with minimal upfront costs and full creative control.

Depending on the nature of the manuscript, eBook production may also be available.

As a small publisher with limited capacity, we operate by invitation only. Unsolicited manuscripts are not accepted.

The Origin of 'Staurolite'

Staurolite takes its name from the Greek word stauros, meaning 'cross'—a fitting reference to its distinctive cruciform crystal shape. This unique mineral is renowned for its twinned crystals, which typically intersect at an angle of 60 degrees. Less commonly, twins may form at 90 degrees, and single, untwinned six-sided crystals are also occasionally found. Staurolite is frequently associated with ironstone.

The specimen pictured measures approximately 1.5 cm in height and was discovered just north of Nuriootpa, in South Australia's Barossa Valley.
